Initial Consultation

Initial consultation is by referral only. A referral is a request to a specialist for investigation, opinion, treatment and/or management of a condition or problem of a patient. A referral is a requirement by the Health Insurance Commission (Medicare) to facilitate the payment of the appropriate Medicare benefits.

A referral to the Sleep Centre can be of two types:

General Practitioner: Most referrals are usually arranged by your general practitioner and can be for any length of time including 'indefinitely'. Generally, a referral is valid for 12 months from your first visit.

Specialist: Referrals by a specialist are valid for 3 months from your first appointment.

The sleep clinic can be contacted on 9346 2422 between 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday for enquires. There is currently a waiting period of approximately 1 month for non-urgent referrals.

Follow-up Appointment

Further appointments including a sleep study and follow-up consultation may be necessary after your initial consult. Your sleep specialist will direct the clinic staff to make the necessary arrangements for you. Patients should always ensure their referral is valid before attending any appointments.
